Buying land in 2024 is a winning proposition. There are so many things that you can do with property, from simply sitting on it as an investment and allowing the timber to grow to building a house on a plot of land. Regardless of what you are looking to do, Wilkes County is a great place to buy land these days.

Why Buy Land In Wilkes County, North Carolina

Wilkes County has recently seen a ton of interest due to the work-from-home revolution of 2020 as well as the reintroduction of the classic North Wilkesboro Speedway to hosting official NASCAR races. Due to this, many small businesses have popped up in the area, and the cost of living is still fairly low compared to places like Boone and Winston-Salem.

There is no shortage of things to do in the area, including:

  • Go for a walk on the extensive greenway system.

  • Explore one of the many state parks, such as Stone Mountain State Park or Rendezvous Educational State Park.

  • Grab a cup of specialty coffee at Anchor Coffee Co. in North Wilkesboro

  • Go out for craft cocktails at Merle’s or one of the craft distilleries.

  • Take mountain biking, for example, the incredible number of trails throughout the county.

As it stands today, there is something for everyone, and it is only going to grow over the next several years. Buying property now is a great investment in the future of Wilkes County.

However, with all that said, purchasing land in any old part of the county is not necessarily the way to do things here.

While “mountain land with a view” may seem like a no-brainer, there could be several caveats. Is the land in a good area of the county? Can the land be developed for the purpose that you have in mind? Working with a real estate agent who knows his way around the county is key, and with my experience and history in the area, working with me will help you save yourself a lot of headaches.

Where To Buy Land In Wilkes County

Wilkes County is one of the largest counties by land mass in North Carolina. There is a bunch of diversity in different types of property for all. Here are a few of the different parts of Wilkes County to consider.

Buy Land in North Wilkesboro And Wilkesboro

The two towns are the crown jewel of Wilkes County. Many companies have started and grown here, and small businesses are just now finding their place in the area after tough economic times. Now, the towns have a burgeoning food and beverage scene with great coffee, food, and craft cocktails, as well as some shopping.

The area around town may have smaller plots of land to purchase, but the convenience factor is huge due to the access to town and 421.

Buy Land in  Millers Creek

In the western part of the county lies Millers Creek, a tiny community that expands into farmland and sits at the base of Rendezvous Mountain. There is plenty of space to spread out in the area, plus the views of the mountains while climbing Highway 16 North are amazing.

Buy Land in the Kerr Scott Dam And Reservoir Area

The area around the lake is probably one of the better places to invest in property. Much of the area's outdoor recreation is centered around the trails at Dark Mountain, Overmountain Victory Trail, and Warrior Creek. Additionally, if you enjoy boating, stand-up paddleboarding, and other forms of watersports, the lake has several access points where you can drop anchor and enjoy the lake life.

Buy Land in Other Areas Around Wilkes

There are so many other amazing areas around Wilkes, from Ronda to Traphill and everything in between. These areas are far more remote and have great access to mountain properties that can be used for timber or other forms of investment.
